Ruth qualified as a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist from Bart's & The Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry, being awarded the Ash Award for the highest grade in final examinations and The Old Londoners Award for the most supportive student. She continues to complete further courses to ensure continued professional development and is competent in providing dental treatment under Inhalation Sedation.
Ruth has been a Clinical Supervisor at Peninsular Dental School since 2010 and after developing an interest in Clinical Education, obtained the position of lecturer in community based dentistry at Plymouth University Peninsula schools of Medicine & Dentistry, and as a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her current working week is divided between teaching at Peninsula Dental School and Clinical work in both General and Private Dental Practices.
Ruth commenced her career in dentistry as a dental nurse in 1996; over the following 6 years, gained experience in the dental hospital setting, increasing her scope of practice and specialising in Dental Nursing for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery before progressing to Dental Nurse Manager. As a Dental Hygienist/Therapist, Ruth has worked in general practice, private practice, dental hospitals and the salaried (community) dental service and whilst in these roles treated a wide variety of patients, including children, adults, those with a dental phobia or with special needs. Additionally she has experience in dental screening for the National Oral Health Surveys.
In her spare time, she enjoys visits to the theatre, music concerts/festivals and getting out intro the fresh air whilst walking the family dog.
