Dental Hygienist and Therapist GDC Reg No. 125334 | Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy 2007 Cardiff Dip HE Dip DT (Cardiff) 2007
Gemma qualified with distinction in both Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy from Cardiff Dental School in 2007 and has a wide range
of experience in both disciplines. Dental hygienists and therapists work closely with other members of the dental team.
A dental hygienist can carry out treatments such as scaling and polishing, oral health promotion and preventative fissure sealants for both adults and children. In addition to the duties described for dental hygienists, therapists are able to carry out a variety of restorative treatments (fillings) on patients. They may also extract deciduous (baby) teeth, undertake pulpotomies (nerve treatments) and place preformed crowns on
badly decayed children’s teeth. They can also take xrays and impressions.
Gemma also takes a keen interest in treating patients with dental phobia / anxiety. Gemma is able to see patients directly without having seen a dentist first as well as via referral.
