Root Canal (Endodontic Treatment)
A root canal treatment, often referred to as an endodontic treatment, is often the best solution if you have a tooth where the nerve has become inflamed due to dental decay, or has been exposed through an injury to the tooth. Either way, these can be quite painful, which is why our highly-skilled dentists are best-placed to provide advice on the optimal course of action for you, to help you to feel comfortable again.
What's involved in the treatment?
If the nerve of your tooth has been compromised, not only can it cause you a lot of pain, but also puts you at risk of developing more serious problems such as infection. When the nerve (pulp) of your tooth becomes inflamed, this can lead to a severe toothache.
If the issue has progressed to this stage, your dentist will recommend the best course of action. As an inflammation in the pulp of your tooth will not rectify itself with a course of antibiotics, our expert staff may recommend you have a root canal filling or endodontic treatment.
During a root canal treatment, your dentist will use a local anaesthetic to ensure that you remain comfortable throughout the process. Our skilled team are highly experienced in making our patients feel relaxed and confident during their dental treatment, and are more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have.
A small hole will be made into the tooth, which will allow your dentist to see any problems within the tooth, before treating or removing the issue, and filling the tooth to stop any further damage from occurring.
Once this process is complete, the small hole created for access will be sealed, and your dentist will determine whether or not you will require a dental crown to be placed on the tooth.
A dental crown is often recommended, as your natural tooth will have undergone a significant level of stress which can often cause it to become weaker. However, our professional dentists will be able to discuss any further treatment options with you to determine the best outcome.
