What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® uses a series of virtually invisible, custom-made aligners that gradually straighten your teeth without using any metal wires or brackets. The aligners (which look like clear retainers) are removable, so you can take them out when eating and brushing your teeth.
How does Invisalign work?
Over the course of your treatment, you will be given a set of custom-made, removable aligners that look a bit like retainers. The aligners gradually shift your teeth using thermoplastic material.
Aligners are changed roughly every two weeks to keep the straightening process going and must be worn 20 to 22 hours a day. They should only be removed when eating or brushing your teeth. If they aren’t worn enough, treatment won’t be as effective.
The average Invisalign treatment takes around 12 to 18 months but varies on a case by case basis. Before your treatment starts, your orthodontist will be able to show you a digital representation of how your teeth should look once you finish your treatment.
What makes Invisalign different from normal braces?
Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® is virtually invisible, so it’s barely noticeable that you’re having your teeth straightened. Some people are put off by traditional braces because of the look and feel of wires and brackets, so clear aligners offer a more subtle alternative.
How much does Invisalign cost?
The cost of Invisalign varies on a case by case basis. Treatments start from roughly £1,500 and can go up to £5,000 depending on the type of Invisalign® aligners you need and the problems you have. To get an accurate quote, you’ll need to go for a consultation with a dentist who is trained to provide Invisalign®.
