Statement re Ronnie Barogiannis 16th September 2016

Oasis Dental Care welcomes the sentencing today of Ronnie Barogiannis at Hull Crown Court.
Oasis inherited this issue and took swift and decisive action to deal with it.
According to Humberside Police, Oasis played a key role in the prosecution. The police statement said: “The dental practice involved were equally horrified when his fraud came to light and have worked closely with the police and supported the investigation throughout. In many ways they are also a victim of his scam.”
Oasis took control of the Hallgate Cottingham practice, where Barogiannis was based, in August 2014 when it immediately introduced its rigorous clinical checks. This due diligence process quickly led to Oasis suspending Barogiannis and removing him from practice on the 8th September 2014.
Oasis Dental Care notified the General Dental Council and the police who were able to mount a successful prosecution with the assistance of Oasis, culminating in today’s sentencing.
The primary concern of Oasis is always for the health and wellbeing of its patients. Having identified and dismissed Barogiannis, Oasis wrote to all patients seen by Barogiannis and offered either an examination plus any necessary remedial work at no cost to the patient, or a refund of any fees paid to Barogiannis if patients preferred to seek dental care elsewhere.
Cases such as these are, thankfully, extremely rare in UK dentistry and Oasis is determined to lead the profession in ensuring the highest standards apply across the UK. We are proud that all our practices achieve 100% compliance with the Care Quality Commission’s requirements, and with those of all other relevant regulators.
The company will be making no further comment on the matter.
